Paint Polyester Awning

If you re looking for a durable water proof and fire resistant awning fabric that is energy efficient then a vinyl polyester composite fabric might be right for you.

You can normally go with a darker color to cover up faded fabric. Our favorite method of applying the waterproofing solution is through a spray bottle on the mist setting. If you re going with this approach it may take a couple layers of paint and we recommend a clear code above the fabric to seal the surface. This makes it a great weekend project as it only takes about 15 minutes to spray a 6 x8 awning.

Set out paints fill spray bottle with water set out containers and cover work area. Natural fiber awnings need to be replaced more often than their acrylic or vinyl or vinyl polyester composite counterparts. Things needed painter s tape medium grit sanding sponge rags utility vacuum cleaner with hose attachment optional mineral spirits or liquid deglosser chemical resistant gloves eye protection latex bonding paint primer exterior grade paint stir sticks paint pan 2 paint pan liners trim size paint. Cover a large flat work surface with cling film to protect it from paint splatter.

If you want to paint your awning darker this is the easiest option. Colors like black crimson or steel blue are fantastic for refreshing the look of a dated awning fabric. Spread polyester fabric over surface. It is durable and resistant to things like mold and mildew while holding its color quite well.

We normally do three coats allowing each one to dry for 4 hours.
