2 for tight paint not peeling but showing cracks. Use a sponge to scrub the area of paint around your bare plaster. Mix a little dish detergent in a pail of hot water. Look for anything that is loose and remove scrape.

This may have been a factor but it didn t damage the paint. Very hard plaster may be slick reducing the adhesion of any coating. Prime the affected areas then patch any damage. And the walls are holding up but flaking off to the point where it s just not salvageable.

New plaster might have a high ph requiring the application of a primer resistant to alkalinity. Clean the surface with a mild solution of soapy water. The plaster and oil based paint in the area looked sound but after we added a layer of latex primer the next day it began flaking off in huge sheets. Make sure to remove all peeling or flaking areas until the wall and ceiling only.

Let the soapy solution set on your wall for 5 to 10 minutes before removing with clean water. 1 for peeling paint. Peeling from plaster could be a result of insufficient wet troweling of the white coat when the plaster was originally applied causing chalking of the surface. Protect the floor with a drop cloth and have a receptacle handy to catch the refuse.

Underneath the paint there is a chalky. A putty knife or paint scraper works well at removing the paint if you carefully move it along the loose edges.

The paint in the living room is also doing the same which i m guessing has been there for about 2 years previous owners job. The reason the paint is peeling off is because it hasn t gripped the plaster so adding layers on top of a peeling layer won t solve the issue. That area was right under the bathroom where there had been a leak now repaired. Scrape off anything that is loose.

How do i repaint a wall that has peeling paint. Apply a penetrating binding primer to seal up and glue down the old paint. It ll just be a thicker layer to peel off. Scrape away as much loose paint as possible using the paint scraper first and then the wire brush.
